But which was these
Bourbons from which is resulting, twenty-two generations later, Henri
de Navarre, who reach the throne of France in 1589 died of his cousin
Henri III, the last of the dynasty of Valois?
The BOURBON, which gave to France its larger kings d' Henri IV in Louis-Philippe,
have their origin in our area and knew a fantastic rise of 10th at the
17th century. One can visit their ducal palates and castles: BOURBON-L'
ARCHAMBAULT, MILLS, MONTLUCON and their necropolis in the splendid clunisienne
abbey of SOUVIGNY..
THE BOURBONNAIS
Between Combraille and Morvan, this area, whose variety of the landscapes is ignored too much, makes the transition between north from the central Solid mass and the south from the Paris basin. Limagnes of the Loire and Allier there amalgamate, forming the plain of Mills. The ground is favourable with agriculture and with the breeding of oxen charolais. In the east, the Sologne bourbonnaise is the country of the ponds, and castles often built out of bricks. HYDROTHERAPY
The therapeutic one
of the sources, or crénothérapie, word more exact than that
of hydrotherapy, which should relate to only hot water, is practised by
the men as soon as they meet nature. The sources have a magic attraction.
In Greece as of high antiquity, Pindare or Aristote celebrates their virtues.
Very enthusiastic of hot baths, the Romans use hydrotherapy with an extreme
luxury. In Gaule, during their conquest, they discover a country rich
in sources of which some bring relief and even cure. Sometimes, they divinisent
the site, and the god of the sources, Borvo, is at the origin of the names
of Bourbon, Bourboule or Boulou.
At the time of the cruel invasions, the majority of the establishments
are destroyed. Only some local traditions of cure remain. The men of the
Average Age generally allot them to miraculous intercessions. When the
knights report crusades the taste of the East for the baths and some rather
worrying diseases, certain water finds their utility then. Louis IX or
the templiers look after their leprous soldiers thus.
To the rebirth, medicine leaves little by little its gropings and the
doctors are interested in the curative values of water. The faculty of
Montpellier establishes a treaty. Ambroise Paré advises the application
of it. Under the reign of Henri III the injuries of the court seek to
renovate. Louis XIII goes to Vichy, like Mrs. de Sévigné.
Mrs. de Montespan takes along all the court to Bourbon Archambault.
The second Empire will be the apogee of hydrotherapy. The development
of the railroad makes it possible to go on the spot hitherto difficult
of access. Napoleon III fact of building in Vichy the first casino.
